Hi,
Can someone help me find a motherboard for my PC. It's been sitting aside for a couple of months because I finally broke down and bought a new PC. But I want to give this one to my mother.

I've done all the trouble shooting and have been advised that it's probably the MB, and they're pretty inexpensive for this older model.

Here is the link to the specifications of my model.

I've searched Ebay, but I really don't know what I'm looking for and what would be compatible with my processor. If anyone could offer any suggestions or another site to where I could find one or even what I specifically need to look for I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

WEEhat makes you think it's the MB that is bad?

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

csxkidd,

Things to keep in mind:

If you DO get a new motherboard that is not "an hp" motherboard, make sure of these things:
[ol][li]The motherboard will fit in the case - if it's the typicall small case, you'll want a micro-atx m/b most likely.[/li]
[li]How does the front panel of the case attach to the mobo? I say this, b/c many of them have their own set organization, and it's all put together in a little plastic thing that make sit a one-time connection instead of (one for power, one for reset, one for hdd led, one for speaker, etc). This isn't a deal breaker, but it can be a headache, as it might end up taking more work than it's worth[/li]

It has to be:

Mini ATX (mATX) to fit in the case

Socket A (for AMD Athlon) also known as socket 462

Has DDR memory slots (usually 2 on mATX boards) for memory type: PC2100 (DDR266) PC333 (DDR333) possibly PC3200 (DDR400) as well

Yours has a Via chipset and if you bought another motherboard with a similar Via chipset you might get away WITHOUT having to re-format the hard drive.
So look for motherboards with one of the following:
KM266/KM400A

You might struggle sourcing a motherboard because of the age the most available replacement is likely to have a SIS chipset, this will be fine but you will almost certainly have to re-install the O/S.
Asrock still produces the K7S41GX which is probably the most commonly available board BUT if you can find one of these:
This is very similar board to what was fitted so should just work with a few driver installs.
