I can get one VPN REMOTE PHONE TO WORK, but when I try to connect or plug the other phones in, I get an IKE ERROR MESSAGE? All users are set up the same way? Is there anything I need to set up different in the router?

Thanks for looking... Any help would be great!!

Do the create the VPN connection with the same user account? If yes then there could be a setting in the Netgear to not allow multiple logins with the same account.

I don't, but I guess I could try that? Not sure what setting to look for to set that? Would "mode config" do this? If so, I've never set that up??

It's a Netgear thing and not an IPO thing. I don't know about Netgear...

When I had to do VPN phones with a netgear I had to use config mode to get more than 1 phone to connect.

It was a few years ago now though and cannot remember the settings I had to use.

sorry to keep this thread going, but I think im just not smart enough to figure this out???

I have seen the "tech tip 184" and tried my best to follow it word for word..... maybe my best isn't good enough??? anyways, im still not able to get more than 1 VPN phone to work. ive tried to set up the "mode config" with the exact settings on the tech tip 184 and still get a IKE phase 1 error when I reboot to try and connect the phone up.

Im using the Netgear FVS338 with the latest firmware (just check from Netgear site)... the only question I have is the is this part.... after creating the "mode config" section there is a note that reads...

Once Completed select the VPN Client option, and create a new user. For starters keep
things simple and use an easy username and password. But consider using the MAC
address as the username for the phones once ready for deployment, and review the
options available to you in the 46vpnsetting.txt file for simplifying the configuration of the
phones
Edit VPN Client – User Database Settings - Option 1
Add New User
Username vpnphone
Password 1234567890
Confirm password 1234567890

not sure if that means I need to modify the 46xxvpn.txt file or what?????

anyway, I have set the FVS338 up right (so I think).... when I choose a profile on the 4621swip, there is a "Juniper Xauth with PSK"...... is that the one im supposed to use? anyways, if you guys don't mind to keep throwing suggestions my way, I would really appreciate it.

thanks again for putting this site up for people/techs like me that need REAL help....

You can use something like @MACADRESS as VPN username in. 46xxsettings.txt. Look into the VPN guide from AVAYA or look for "9600 EAP TLS" on Google. There you will find the variables to use in 46xxsettings.txt.

The suggestion seems to be to configure VPN users on the Netgear with the MAC address as username and a common password.

In the Netgear you need to setup a group policy VPN and for each phone you need to have a login account.
The VPN settings in the VPN phone is the same for each phone only the login credentials differ.
BUT, why not use two VPN routers instead of deploying VPN Phones?
In my experience the VPN Phones & Netgear isn't the most reliable combination while a VPN tunnel between Netgears perform a lot better and is a lot easier to deploy and maintain.

Get another VPN router for the remote location.
Connect that location using a VPN tunnel.

Hey guys... Sorry to keep this one going. Just wanted to report on the fix/issues im still having.

I've got 2 of the 3 VPNRemote phones working (2 in same office at Regus in Alabama, and 1 in Nashville) Nashville phone works great and one phone at Regus works great until they both try to connect both phones....then they both go dead (discover 192.168.43.1) crap. Someone is trying to show off and let everyone know how smart they are by locking the network down and not letting anything without MAC addresses or things like that.... I understand, but sucks for someone like me who needs a couple of remote phones working without having to set up a "site-to-site VPN. Plus these phones are in a Regus office, so they won't let you have your own usable/static address from the ISP...DUMB!! I did however, had them do a "mute clear" and reset the phones. That got things working again....

Any how, the problem with the 2 phones at Regus office is one can work by using the Genric PSK profile, but if you connect the other phone the same way, it makes both phones stop working. I think they have assigned the same IP Address to that office because when I pull up system status whatever phone is working has the same IP address as the other phone did. Anyways, I asked if we could possibly get 2 local IP addresses (that's like an act of God around there) to see if we can get those going. When they work, they work great!!

I was also wondering if I could avoid all of this by doing the "mode config" setup with the NETGEAR SRX5308 or the FVS338. I tried to set that up so my/our router would give the IP addresses, but I could never get the VPN phone to get passed building the IPSEC tunnel. Actually I did get it to build a tunnel, but I always got a "discover 192.168.43.1" message on screen. I know that means there's an IP route issue, just don't know where to check or change. I added every IP route I could think of, and still no luck. I think this would be so much easier (if I understood it better) than having to rely on other people having their network set up in a way that works with the Avaya phones.

Anyway, if anyone has a "cheat sheet" on setting up "mode config" for the VPN phones, I would be willing to poll dance for it!!

Sorry for the long post.... Hope to hear back with a "cheat sheet"!!!!!! Come on, you know you want to see a poll dance!!! ;-)

Did you mean pole dance?

If these phon s get the same VPN IP address I assume that the VPN router sets the IP address on a per user base and the phones log in with the same user account.

Same IP will be the reason for the discover message because IPO can answer only to packets from on of these phones.

The answer is this:
If it's one, vpn client is fun.
More than two, vpn router for you.

Ha. I'm a poet and i didn't know it. So i've got that going too.

OK.... so I'm having the same issue at a different site. 2 people moved to a different office and connected their VPN remote phones up and they still get the "discover 192.168.43.1" message on the screen. if one phone is plugged in, it works great. do I need to set something up different in the router or the IP OFFICE?

I have the 4621SWIP phones running the "generic" settings. I have the "protected nets" at 0.0.0.0 and the remote addresses as 192.168.43.0/24 I'm thinking that's right?? anyway, if someone could shed some lite on what I might need to change, that would be great.

Again, the control unit is IP500v1 9.0.4
Router using: Netgear FVS338

thanks and sorry to keep bugging about this.
