Sure can. It's called the BCM standard expansion gateway kit (NTBU0944). Essentially it's another BCM 400 connected via IP trunks.
Here's the kicker - it'll be managed like two different systems. Paging between systems through the sets? Nope. F980, F984, F986, F987 from the expansion system to voicemail? Nope. Seamless dialing between systems? Yup.
So yes, you can do it, but you will lose some functionality on the "expansion" system.
If you don't need physical trunks to appear on the phones (such as analog lines) then yes. It would only work if you had all digital trunks. Analog trunks would have to be redirected via line redirection to a target line on the "remote" system. With digital trunks, tt would then just be a matter of using CDP to get the DID's DNIS digits to the other system.
If I'm not mistaken, the expansion bundle comes with 32 IP trunk licenses. If you anticipate more than 32 simultaneous calls to/from the PSTN, you'll want to add additional IP trunks. The BCM 400 supports up to 60.
