I am using the latest patch of Groupwise 5.5.1 on the client systems on our Novell Network.

I am doing a phased replacement of our client computers with Dell OPtiplex systems that have Windows XP and Office XP professional preloaded on them. Therefore, Outlook is preinstalled on these systems even though we are using Groupwise instead. (Two Love Hate relationships there...)

Whenever I start Groupwise I get a dialog box from windows asking for the Exchange Server (1st field) and the name of the mailbox (2nd field.) I cancel this dialog box and groupwise is able to send and receive email but...
The groupwise address book is blanked out when you go to it.

Because Groupwise specifically tells you that you need the MAPI system installed I know Novell needs this stuff...

I've dinked around with these settings but I'd like an authoritative answer from someone who knows what is really suppose to be in these fields. Since I've never run exchange server on an NT server I've always been a little stumped by these requests even when they show up on peer to peer networks I've administered as well. Any big overview of Exchange Server and how it works would be appreciated if someone is feeling loquacious...

PS. my last experimental setting for the server (EBC_DOM)
has rendered groupwise unusable. so help..

Okay, this is common .... Outlook has always caused this pain when it is installed before GroupWise is installed.

The MAPI you need lives in the Windows Messaging System.

If you don't use Outlook (which you could if you wanted to, GroupWise doesn't care) just get rid of it. The quicker solution however is to just remove the service.

Pulling this one from memory, so terms may be a bit off.

In Outlook you may be familure with the services. GroupWise needs three Novell services. There is also this thing with profiles, when you look at the services avilable you will see a button that will go to profiles or personalities or something like that (someone look at your Outlook and correct me please). There will be two profiles, you just want to keep the Novell profile. This will fix the problem you are having. If it's not the profile then it is the service, uninstall the Exchange service.

You may need to do all of this in Outlook, in the tools or options menu. You can also find the MAILBOX icon in Control Panel if you run NT or a 9x on the client, it also will get you to these settings. Brent Schmidt CNE, Network +
