I'm resolved that my processor is dead. I need to replace it or upgrade it.

Here's what i have;(dead cke3 rel 5),p/s 391a1,(4)008mlx,(1)400gs/ls/ttr,(1)800gs/ls,(1)100D,(2)012,expansion p/s 391a3 and mostly mlx10d's & a few 20d's. Also intuity audix.

What i need operational now is;(2)008,the 400, the 800, one 012 and the intuity.

I think one choice is replace processor with R7 new or refurb. Everything else should work including p/s, right?

The second choice is to claim shell a magix processor. I'm not certain about the p/s, but is everything else okay?

What i see on price is 200-300 difference between the two routes. What's best given a $200 difference? Any pitfalls growing the systems either way? Admin better on magix? Am i missing something?

Please advise and thank you.

Most of the enhancements with Magix are call center / TDL card / phone related.

Unless you have specific needs for ACD/UCD, legend 7 parallels most commonly used features.

Magix does have some "handy" features including auto daylight savings time clock setting, hot dial pad (3.0) to name a few which are nice upgrades to an old reliable friend.

Card compatability... you should be fine. For whatever reason, I have had winspm argue about 800 gs/ls and 408 gs/ls non-caller i.d. cards as being ATL related. Then after changing/updating the administration password through standard spm, they inventory just fine! Who knew!

The current magix upgrades work with either a CKE4 or CKE5 processor, so either choice now will at least allow you future forward compatability thru Magix 3.0.

If you want some extra future-upgradability assurance, you might put the money down on something with a CKE5.

if i clamshell magix into my legend is my p/s okay?

if magix, do i just need "Merlin Magix Release 3.0 Processor" and a clamshell only?

thanks

If you go with Magix, be sure to swap your primary carrier power supply to a 391A3 or you will see problems. The A1 & A2 had 1/3 less power output than the A3 and shouldn't be used for the 100D module, either. Also, be sure heat buildup is not an issue, the Magix is a hotter CPU. If heat fried the old, the new will go quickly. All your modules look compatible with Magix.

Magix will give you better stability, more routing options, more module compatibility, networking is easier and integration with Messaging is easier. For your setup, it really doesn't matter except for future stuff.

If you go Legend, watch what you get and from where. A lot of very early CPUs with forced firmware upgrades to R7 are offered (especially on eBay) for cheap. CPUs before 4.1 were never designed for that. You get what you pay for, sometimes they last for years, sometimes weeks. Go to an authorized Avaya refurber if you go that way, the warranty is absolutely worth its weight in gold and the price is rarely more than the scammers get.
