I just installed Panther server and set up LDAP. Using the group manager, I created a user and home directory. If I create the user on the client machine, I can authenticate and connect to the server directory. However, If the user is not created on client machine, I cannot authenticate. I am completely stumped as to how to debug this. I have checked and checked again that everything is set correctly but I am stumped. Can someone please suggest a way to debug this? I have used Kerberos under Unix but OS X hides so much I cannot even find the KDC database or logs. TIA.

I finally found the log. Now I know what is happening but not why. Although there is no error alert when I add a user, I found the error, "could not add kerberos principle," in the log where the ADDUSER occurs. Anyone have any suggestions? TIA.

One more peice of information that is probably the problem. The log also contains an error "no realm." Since that is all set automatically by the manager on initial config, what do I do about that? TIA.

As I continue to get more and more frustrated with this, I have now determined (maybe) that the problem is that the server manager is not creating a Kerberos database. Or at least there is nothing in /var/db called openldap which is where it is supposed to be.

Has no one tried to implement this that can help me?
