Need keywords for adding new records

I'm at a loss as to what to search on for this. I have a form with client notes, including 'clientid'. I have a command button that, when clicked, it will open another form to add a new notes for the same client. I want to carry over just the 'clientid' to the new form and nothing else.

I've tried to use the command button wizard and that has not worked in carrying over the clientid.

I've searched on AddNew, new records, carry over data, and others but can't seem to find anything that matches. Could someone just send me some keywords that I should be searching on?

I'm doing this for a friend of mine who at this point wants separate forms. I'm still working on getting them to change.
