I am a Programming Student. I have a report due on a DBMS I have never used. Paradox was the choice. There is some information that I require, but I'm having a hard time finding it. Could someone help me with this.

General Information
Single/multi user, Client/Server, security features, concurrency updating, backup/recovery features etc...

Added features
Visual Interface, Report Writer, Screen Generator, Query Generator, Applications Development, Case Tools etc...

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately this assignment is due on Friday, April 20th.

Thank you for all your help.

Paradox can be set up to be multi-user, but I've always used it single user.

Security: tables can be passworded, so can forms (screens).

Concurrency: Individual records are locked while being modified.

Backup: I just zip the entire folder with my data files in it periodically. But this is for personal use, so I know what I've added in case i need to redo the data entry.

Recovery: There are table repair utilities included. Haven't needed them with Paradox 9, but I did use them with the old 3.1 version I used many years ago.

Report Writer: Haven't used it much; since it's personal use, I just do finds with the forms.

Screen Generator: The form creator is pretty powerful. The trick is to get your "data model" which describes the relationships among the tables correct in one shot or your subpanels end up in the wrong order.

Query Generator: QBE is the "usual." I've been told that the SQL query editor is much improved, but haven't used it yet.

Application development: I've done some fairly seamless applications, where one form spawns another. I haven't used the tools which let you make programs which will run with only the Runtime verson (again, personal use, always run on one computer).

Case tools: Do you mean scripting language? My only complaint is that you have to go to "Object Explorer" instead of "Properties" to access the scripts for any particular control or field in the form. ObjectPal is a pretty powerful language, but it is complex because of that power. The help for the scripting language is much improved from the Win 3.1 version (which was godawful).

Hope this helps!
