We're developing a wireless app for out in our plant. What I'm trying to find is some information on wireless access points that are rugged enough for use in a steel plant. The only AP I've found so far that mentions it is rugged enough for this type of app is the Cisco Aironet 1242AG access point. This model seems very good, but I'd like to compare it against a few others if possible. Does anyone know of any access points that could be used in a rugged environment? i.e., lots of dirt and dust floating in the air. Need something relatively sealed so it lasts awhile.
We currently do not have any wireless in our network. The handhelds that our developer is looking at run either Windows Mobile or Windows CE for the OS and use the 802.11b protocol.
Also, range is important. Our plant is approx 400' x 650' with lots of steel beams/walls which will impede the signal. We're going to start with 2 ap's first for testing in an area of approx 400' x 200' and see how it goes, then implement the system to cover the whole plant.
Any ideas on brands, products, etc. welcome!
