Hi!

I see more SNMP protocol in printers these days!!
I want to know what is the use of snmp and what can ia really do with this!!!

What is the use also of having SNMP in my printer driver?
If anyone have any lonks about this please send them to me because theres thousand of web pages talking about snmp but they SO don't keep it simple that i don't get the point of it!!!

Thank you

Since we are not talking about any one printer, all we can do here is generalise.
SNMP is a tool to allow you to interrogate a networked device to discover information about it's current state.
Maybe memory/processor usage for servers or maybe toner level or paper jam status for a printer.
SNMP also has a system of "traps" that allow a device to complain to something when it has a problem so, in theory, you could configure your printer to send a trap to a specific server when it is out of paper or toner or when it's jammed.
If you configure the server with some code or scripts to managet that issue, you could have these messages routed to the appropriate support guys via email or SMS.

Hope that helps.
