My server went down due to a power outage and when starting up it just displays the message "The Active Directory is rebuilding indices" with no hard drive activity. I left it like this for several hours and nothing..

I looked in the MS knowledgebase and couldn't find anything at all.

Anyone has any suggestions?

Thanks,
MAC

Probably corrupted the active directory database.

Reboot into Active Directory Recovery Mode after pressing (F8?) during boot. Check this MS article:
Check the documentation of ESENTUTL which can check the consistancy and fix the active directory database (use with care, YMMV, RTFM, BYOB, etc.)

Hope this helps
