Need help with unmanaged reports

Hi there, this is on CR10 using either Oracle/Sybase/Remedy ODBC.

I have a number of reports that I would like to be unmanaged. I of course mean I just FTP the .rpt file (saved without data) to a website. This is not a report with parameters but some might contain subreports. I do not want my URL to contain the login information, I would rather it just automatically allow users to connect to the database.

My problem here is that this seems to work extremely inconsistently. Some reports I can refresh however many times I want while others will prompt for a database login. Looking on it, Oracle always seems to prompt for a login while Remedy is around 65% login to 35% no login on the same ODBC.

Is there something that I have to setup or modified to get this working? Ideally, you would click the link and it would open a live report with up to date data and not contain the login information in the URL.

Suggestions? Ideas?

Oh- if someone says to use ASP or HTML to just have the user click a 'ReportName' type link, I would need a method to hide the login information when they do view source. I think ASP might do this but I have 0 knowledge of that particular lanquage so if you do suggest that, could you also please give me some advice on how to go about it?

Thank you in advance,
Phil

How could CR allow for this anyway, I think that you must be running CE 10?

Since you wish to do this outside of normal security methods, as you've alluded to, you're going to have a high maintenance system, in that you're going to be writing code.

Since you're FTPing to a website, conceivably these people on this site don't have access to your reports, you might send a link to the report within CE (managed), or another way that comes to mind is to set up the guest account with no password and give permission to these reports.

Always interesting that people make architectural decisions to go around security and then ask how to use it.

Ok, how about managed reports then through CE10. It's all the same to me as all reports go to an unmanaged disk to which I point the URL. I uncheck 'Don't prompt the user for a database login' and next thing I know, I open the link and hit refresh, blam it asks for a login. I need actual live report, not a report that I run every 5 minutes to have it up to date.

I have a report in front of my face now where I am hitting the lightning bolt and it is refreshing constantly without the login prompt. But I jump to another report on the same site and this one prompts me.

The BO person told me that when I uncheck that box that it should not prompt for a login but it still does for way too many reports.

We do not have enough licenses for EPortfolio so that option is out.

I'm at a loss, not sure why a report wouldn't ask for a login if you're not logged into eportfolio, unless there isn't a login required for the database.
