When trying to backup a MS SQL server database with Enterprise Manager we get the following message on Windows 2000 SBS SP3:

Source: MSSQLSERVER
Category: (6)
Event ID: 17055
Description:
3041:
BACKUP failed to complete the command BACKUP DATABASE [icdet]
TO TAPE = N'\\.\Tape0' WITH NONINIT , NOUNLOAD, NAME = N'ywsms SQL database backup', SKIP, STATS=10, DESCRIPTION = N'New SMS 1AM daily backup', NOFORMAT

Data: x Bytes

0000: e1 0b 00 00 20 00 00 00
0008: 06 00 00 00 59 00 57 00
0010: 44 00 42 00 31 00 00 00
0018: 00 00 00 00

Tried cleaning the drive, new tapes, confirmed tapes OK in another identical drive in another system, erased the tapes, and so on. MSBackup doesn't work either and we get errors such as: "The device reported an error on a request to read data from media. Error reported: Invalid command."

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the tape drive could be iffy if MSBackup is failing. Can you backup to the tape drive in the other machine?
