Hello,
I'm new to linux/apache. My goal is to be able to host a few sites on my two linux boxes. I'm able to get the apache test page (localhost) and get on the net. I've just received two public IP address from my ISP.I plan on using one for ns1 and the other for ns2. How do I associate these ip addresses with my nameservers?? thanks

Hi,

If you are hosting yourself, the first thing would be to alter the domain record to point at your nameservers. You would need the id/password for the domain and then would go to the site where you registered, e.g.

After that all name queries for addresses ending in 'yourdomain.com' should be routed direct to your servers.

You will need to set up the Bind package with the named daemon running and set that package up. The basically involves configuring the main conf file /etc/named.conf and the subsidiary files in /var/named for your domain(s). You would also need to download the latest root file (named.ca). See

The other fairly obvious thing to do is to configure the IP addresses of your internet connection. If you only have one connex it should still work as long as the two ip addresses are on the same subnet on a lan. Otherwise you may have to manually adjust the routing tables.

Rgds

Thanks ifincham

Once I get my netgear router configured properly for port forwarding things should go a little smoother....
