Hi -
I am VERY new to Project. I have entered a large amount of tasks into a Gantt chart, set up and assigned resources to each task. I have also set the estimated completion time and dependencies for each task.
Now I need to enter the ACTUAL time each task took. Is it possible to have a report show me time for each task that compares estimated and actual times? ALSO - how do I enter ACTUAL time. I saw that when I created the task, there was a checkbox by time to indicate that this is an estimate, but if I (re)use this field for entering actual time, I don't see how I could have a report show estimated v. actual times.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

1. You have to baseline the project:
Tools | Tracking | Save Baseline ...

2. You have to display the necessary information:
View | Resource Usage
Click on any of the column headers on the left side of the page then press the Insert key. This will prompt you for the column you want to display. At the least you'll want to display Work, Actual Work, Baseline Start, Actual Start.

3. You have to display the necessary details:
RightMouseButton on the right hand side of the display but *NOT* on the header titles. At the least, you'll want to display Work and Actual Work.

4. I'm guessing you'll want pretty pictures.
View | Tracking Gantt

You won't get really pretty pictures until you've started to enter actual data.

thank you - exactly what I needed to know
