I recently acquired a NAM (I believe v4). It has one board with two ports (Dialogic) and a fax modem.

I dropped a video card into the unit and hooked it up to my KVM to see what is going on.

The unit boots fine, OS/2 stars up, but it starts into an "OS2YOU" window. It apperas to be running something with the modem, maybe fax server, not sure.

I want to get voicemail to run on this thing. I try the F9XX codes to access voicemail but keep getting "inactive feature" which leads me to belive voice mail may not be present on the NAM.

When I check DN status the two ports I have wired show connected with "PCID" as the device.

Any help on getting this up and running would be greatly appreciated. I have no experience with the NAM module or with OS/2. I have searched through the tek-tips forum and have not found anything that helps diagnose the NAM unit.

Thanks in advance.

Sound like you need an authorized vendor to take a look at it. Do you know how to get into Access(F915)?

It may be an incompatable version of NVM for the KSU's you tried.

Does your NAM have a bank of 10(?) dip switches on the dialogic card edge that faces out? If so you need to flip 8 to the left (while system is off). The other thing you need to do is turn the video on with F915.

Can't get into any programming through the KSU. Everythins comes back "inactive feature".

The KSU should be compatible. I am running a CICS 6.1.

There are no switches on the dialogic board. The only switches are on the modem board and they are clearly labelled for COM PORT setting config.

I dropped in the video card, and I get full video to the monitor, without having to enable VGA through F915.

If I have copies of the software is it possible to blow away the unit and reconfigure it?

the compatibility issue is not with the ksu its the nam what release is the nam and if its a copper "dialogic card"its probaly and older nam that has been upgraded... and where did you get vm software the diskettes and cd's are just upgrades and you need keycodes for most of them...you cant access vm thru the os2 it is for the acd"cintech"...

Thanks for teh reply "luv2ski"

Let me clarify and answer your questions.

It is a NAM model 4 date: 12/06/96.
It is a copper dialogic card.
I do not have any software. I was asking that if I did have the software sould I blow away the config and re-install - I guess by your comment I can not.

Also, I think you just answered another question for me in that I can not access vm through the OS2. i am going to try a laptop connection to the serial port.

I still don;t know why the KSU does not see the NAM. if I try any of the F codes (915,983) I just get "inactive feature".

I have the Cintech ACD minuet package, but it is no use to me. Unfortunately it is the only software pacakge I have.

a nam mod 4 dated 1996 is either 1.x or 2.x ...i would guess 2.2 for y2k compliance...which is not compatible with 6.1 on ksu unless it was upgraded "nam" to 4.0

If the CICS is R6.1 I'm pretty sure your NAM needs to be R4.1 to be compatible. If you have an old release NAM it's more than just software to upgrade. The RAM needs to be beefed up, and more than likely a larger hard drive will need to be installed.

We've got an old copper NAM in our office that I upgraded to R4.1, and I also added a network card so we can use desktop messaging, that works great on our CICS R6.1.

I hooked the NAM up to an old 8x24 KSU, and it works perfectly. Only problem is I don;t know the passwords. I tried the "resetsmpswd", but it didn't work.

This NAM is only ISA inside. I have a standard ISA VGA card and an ISA 3COM NIC. Will these work in the NAM (with approrpiate drivers?)

As well, can I drop a standard IDE hard drive in the NAM, or has Nortel done something custom so that only specific hard drives will work???

You will not be able to use this NAM with your CICS unless you have it upgraded to 4.1.

Go to F985 press 9, 73738767793 to reset F983 password.
When you get into F983 press 9 to see what version SW it has.

Some ISA cards work, you need certain(?) ones.

You can use any hard drive. The problem is it needs specific operating system stuff on it to work. If you can make a perfect clone of the drive, you can replace it.
