I have a terminal server that is connected to another box with a constant flow of data across the link. I need to connect to the terminal server and log everything that comes across this link. I have tried using telnet but of course there is no way that I know of to make this telnet run in the back ground. This would be somthing that needs to connect in the morning and then disconnect at night. But it would need to log for atleast 12 hours. And it would also need to be run from cron so it can start and stop over the weekend or when I am not at work.

expect may be the tool for you... it's a scripting language for automating interactive applications, and I'm sure it would be capable of logging the session to a file.
