Need help with exporting other file formats from 3DS Max R2 1

Does Anyone know of any fixes for the export filters in 3D Studio Max R2 as exporting a 3DS mesh gives bad geometry on complex boolean objects, VRML 97 does not seem to work with largish scenes, infact, anything over about 10,000 polygons and the DXF format does not preserve object relations. These are the only filters that 3DS max provides that I can use as I am transporting models into Virtual Reality. Maybe There are extra export plugins that I do not know of. Does anyone have any thoughts/sugestions
