Hi guys

I really need your help right now. I had a customer that had just gotten a dell dimension e-310 series computer as a gift. Well the guy doesn't speak english and asked me to install xp in spanish which i did. The thing is that his computer did come with the drivers and also they was no partition that had them on his hard drive. So i was able to find everything at dell.com under drivers, but when i try to install the drivers for audio it says that the system wont accept them ( i take it that they are the wrong drivers, and that's why)

now my big problem is that i can't seem to find those drivers anywhere at all. Could any of you guy's shed some light on this issue, i would really appreciate it. I really would like to know where i can find them or if anyone has them and is willing to share them with me. Thanks again.

Luis.

You should be able to connect the PC to Dell over the Internet and it will identify the system and provide you with the correct drivers.

Did you identify drivers by model or using the service tag?
I've run across a couple of instances where the service tag was more accurate in locating the drivers as some machines had what looked like mid-model upgrades to parts.

thanks for the replies guy's,

yeah i located the drivers using the service tag, and then manually on my own but it didn't give the right drivers for audio. question TF1 how do you connect the computer to dell and have it identify the drivers, sorry haven't worked with much more than clones for a while. could you please let me know it would be of great help

thanks,

Luis

If you've ID'ed the drivers using the service tag and they're not installing, maybe the audio section is malfunctioning somewhere. It may be easier to buy a cheap PCI card to install?

I've always found in such cases it's easiest just to identify the audio chip on the motherboard (make and model number) then go to that manufacturers website eg: CMI, realtek, creative etc etc
The plus is that you get the very latest available, unlike those on Dells or the motherboard manufacturers site.

To get Dell to ID your computer, if you connect the computer to Dell, go to the Support section and (IIRC) in the top left corner there is a button labelled something like 'Identify My PC'. Dell will then interogate your computer and the page will refresh with your computer model and service tag logged.
