Need help with a sprite flash.

I'm starting to learn flash, and decided to start with a sprite movie, because I can't draw at all. So far, I'm only having one problem, but it's a rather serious problem.

When I import the sprite, I get the square background behind it, even though the background is supposed to be transparent. I've even tried outlining the sprite specifically. Could someone help me get rid of this annoying square? I'm using the GIMP program, if that helps at all.

Create a background transparent PNG (GIMP can, can't it?) then import.
