Hello all,

I am having trouble with the spooling speed when I do a mail merge. I merge as little as 5,000 records to maximums of 50,000.

The records merge quickly, without a hitch. The problem that I am having is that when the spooling begins, it runs at a very quick pace. However, afer 1,000 records or so, it begins to slow down, eventually slowing to the point, were one record is spooled every 3 or 4 seconds.

Needless to say, but this adds a considerable amount of time to this process. My question is two fold:

1.) How does Microsoft office spool, what does it
use to do this, RAM, VITURAL MEMORY, ETC???

2.) What can I do to increase the speed at which it
            spools.

Thanks in advance

Tronicbot

P.S.
Here is a list of the software and hardware that I am using.
         SFTWR Microsoft Office 97
                   ( Excel, access,and word )
                   Microsoft Windows 98 SE

         Hdwe AMD K6/2 400 w/512k cashe and
                   160 meg sdram

Just off the top of my head, I'd say this has nothing to do with your system or Office, it's all about the memory in the printer. Your printer probably only holds XX amount of memory. In the beginning of your print job, it will run quickly. It will slow down considerably when the spool has "filled up" the printer's memory and sit in the queue until the printer can take some more of the spool. A lot of printer drivers will allow you to see the amount of memory on the printer by going to the printer's properties.

To increase the speed, increase the memory in the printer.

Good luck!

dreamboat@nni.com
<a href=
