I need to know how I can add up a column that has names not numbers.

hcubed,

You can only SUM numbers.

Did you want to COUNT the text fields? Use COUNTA(A:A) if column A has your names.

Hi Skip

Can I send you the file, I have no idea about things like that.

Cheers

Hans

hans,

Please give me an example of whats in the column.

You cannot "add up" names. You CAN count names. Explain what you want to do with it.

Denton
Yucel
Clarke
Lederhose
Austin

Lets say that Denton is in A4 and your range is A4:A8.

Then the COUNT of names formula is
[tt]
=Counta(A4:A8)
[/tt]
