need help to install Seagate Barracuda drive in B&W G3

My internal hard drive on my B&W G3 broke. So, I bought
a Seagate drive to replace it. Here are the specs:

Seagate part # ST360021A
60 GB
Ultra ATA/100 interface
7200 RPM

I installed the drive and was able to partition it and
format it. However, I can't install OS 8.6 on it from the
CD that came with my computer. It usually freezes up
in the middle. The wristwatch won't move when I move the
mouse around. Did I just buy the wrong drive? Is there
a way to install OS 8.6 on this drive?

I don't think the blue and white G3s support 60GB drives without a firmware upgrade.

The ATA won't matter as it'll just run at 66MB/s.

Just as a precaution though, zap the P-RAM in case that is messing you up.
