Hello everyone.

I need help starting the sybaseanywhere 8 on Win 2000 and or NT.

I have already installed the sybase anywhere 8.
Installation was fine.
Eveytime I try to connect to sybase using isql I get the following error.

The context allocation routine failed.

The following problem caused the failure:

Invalid context version.
Client version: 12.0
Database name (connection string): sybase8@
User name: dba
Password: sql
Error text: ct_connect(): directory service layer: internal directory contro
yer error: Requested server name not found.

Any idea?

I have also installed the open client from sybase adaptive server enterprise 12.5.

is that the open client I should be using?

thank you all

Hi Sina,

AFAIK, you don't want to use the ASE 12.5 Open Client to connect to ASA. It sure sounds like this is exactly what it's trying to do. ct_connect is a routine in ct-lib (part of the ASE Open Client); what it's saying is that the client you want to connect to is not listed in the DSEdit list of servers (which it shouldn't be--since you don't want Open Client in the loop anyway).

I'm guessing that the path on your PC points to the ASE Open Client so that when you invoke ISQL, it finds the ASE version, not the ASA version. Try running from the ASA directory that contains ISQL or use a full path name. It's been a while since I ran ASA, but at the time I did have both ASA and Open Client installed and it can work.

If that's not the problem, ASA questions don't seem to get a lot of help on this forum; you might try this one:

Best of luck,
