Hello all,

We recently installed ISDN line between our two offices and We just received the router (cisco 804). I have not been able to contact the telco people for help with setup. Bascically, the routers and the line just sit there. What do I need to config the router? or these things are PnP? I had some experiences configuring cisco 100 series (ages ago), but please consider me as a total newbie. Need help quickly. Any pointer is appreciated. Thanx.

Hi MrX, ISDN can be difficult to work with and I would not recommend a "newbie" to start there, but I'm sure your gonna try any way. I recently used one of the Cisco sample configs to get me started, they have good notes to support the configs.
There are two main ways to configure these "dialer profiles or Dialer maps" but either one will work for you.

:) you know me! I'll "try anyway". This spirit has gotten me in troubles more ways than I can count, but as long as it does not hurt anybody. I'll try anyway!

Thanx for the the pointer. I'm going to look at "DDR Snapshot Using Dialer Profile" ( Is this the doc you have referred? Thanx again.

Hi, the config you refer to looks fine, I presume you require a routing protocol as the config uses snapshot routing (RIP in this case). You will have to mess around with the snapshot client settings to control the routing updates, or if your network is simple then you could use static routes instead. This link explains snapshot settings. Bob ^^

Sorry just a quick note, I see no config for the Ethernet interfaces but an IP address and a no shut would suffice, and there is some x25 info in the server config that I do not understand.
anyone out there know what this bit is?

line aux 0
x25 subaddress 4
rotary 5
autocommand x28

woudn't stop the router working but I'm curious to what it does.
Bob ^^
