need help saving photoshop document as jpeg

I have an older version of photoshop (5.0) and am having difficulty saving manipulated images as jpeg's.

When I take a photo and just do a basic color adjustment or crop, I am given a full list of options to save the document as "photoshop", "jpeg", etc.

BUT, when I use the other tools... such as applying paintbrush or whatever, when I go to save the document I am only given the option of saving it as a "photoshop document". This prevents me from inserting these images on my website created using dreamweaver.

Is there like a trick to this or something, or am I just experiencing a glitch?

That is probably because you create an additional layer in the document (or it could be because you are working on the Background layer. Since the only file format that Photoshop 5 will allow you to use with layers is it's own, it greys out the other options.

Use Save As Copy, or click copy checkbox (can't remember that far back to PS5).
Alternately, flatten your image first.

I'm sure this is not the case but check that your image mode is RGB or CMYK and not Lab Color or multi channel.
