Hi i had a virus about a week ago but i got it cleaned off but i was having problems with xp still so i want to format my c: drive so i can just do a reinstall but the problem is when i am in dos alls it will reconize is my a drive so i need to reset my mobo but i have never had to do this so could some one please help me.

If your c drive was formatted using NTFS, and you are booting up the system with a Windows 98 diskette, (or something like it), your c drive may not be recognized, and likely, the boot diskette will make a RAM Drive, and call it "C".
Is this what is happening?
Do you have a Windows 98 boot diskette to work from?
How are you getting to DOS?

When you load your start up disk are you selecting the option to start with CD ROM support?
Is your Bios setup to boot from a CD Rom? The windows XP CD is a bootable CD and will boot to the setup procedure automatically. It will give you the options to format and do a clean install.

Do you still have some resemblance of XP on your hard drive or have you "fdisk" on the partition. If you can get into XP Safe Mode you could try using the "last known good configuration" option which might fix up your registry.

I think you can get Windows 9x boot disks from any of these should give you the option to start your computer with CD Rom support.
You can even get a set of 6 floppies from Microsoft to load the whole of XP that way. Home and Pro use different files. The following link is for home, if you have pro, navigate from this page.
