Need help removing virus

[anderlee]

I have a virus on my computer. I ran full scans of several anti virus prograrms avg, ad-aware, lighthouse, microsoft and non detect a virus. I can use gmer to see iexplorer (****hidden***) keeps loading and I get popups on the desktop or clicking sounds or a "Congratulation you won" voice coming through my speakers.

PS when I run gmer scan first time gmer comes back with

a warning message that gmer has found modification caused by rootkit activity.

If you know there is a virus (or more likely malware), generally you can consider anything previously installed to be compromised for whatever reason. You can also consider the odds low of these programs detecting it.

Nothing jumps out in the information listed to me (but it might to others). But that's not unusual since malware can appear using standard Windows system names. As a suggestion, GMER usually isn't standard for this kind of thing and more people will likely help you if you were to use HijackThis.

Though, GMER should be indicating to you what this "rootkit activity" is (i.e. the differences it is finding). Barring that, disconnect the computer from the net, try booting the computer to safemode and see what your programs produce. If none will run, try one of the AV rescue CDs linked to in thread760-1603993. Download it from a known clean computer and burn it there.

If there is something there, it should be a clue as to what to do to disable it from running. Most good malware will not be removable (and in some cases detectable) if it is running.

Try combofix - download it and follow the instructions here:

Or you can post an issue with them and wait until they get back to you and tell you what to do step-by-step. It might take a few days for them to respond. But I'd just run Combofix and let it do it's thing. It might take 20 or more minutes to finish. Don't get stressed and turn off the PC!!!
