We recently upgraded a few of our servers from AIX 4.3 to 5.1.

Now, the man pages appear to be missing:

# man ls
Manual entry for ls not found or not installed.

# echo $MANPATH
/usr/local/man:/usr/share/man

Yet, it looks like bos.rte.man is installed:
bos.rte.man 5.1.0.35 COMMITTED Man Commands

Anyone know if there is something else I need to install to get these man pages working again?

Thanks.

Hi!
You have to uninstall the man pages and reinstall using smitty. This should work because I had the same problem on a number of servers.

Cheers,

Thanks for responding.

Specifically, which fileset did you uninstall and reinstall?

Regards!

Before reinstalling anything, try running the catman command to reformat the man pages. It may take a while to run, so be patient.

I have running the catman command, but the man pages are still missing...any other suggestions?

Thanks.

If you force install the base level fileset:

bos.man.en_US.cmds

This should resolve the problem.
