I have been modifying our database today and have run across a problem. The problem is that I get an error when I try to open our database that reads "You do not have permissions to use D:/business/db1.mdb objects" I have tried every way I know to set permissions so I can regain access to our data. I can not open the database to be able to set the permissions. Can anyone help, or tell me how to disable permissions altogether.

Thanks Much

Charles

Hiya,

Don't know whether this'll work or not:

Create a brand new database, choose File -> get External Data -> Import and try to import all objects from the secured database.

I have tried that and it does not seem to work. Been working on this for three days.

Thanks

Charles

Don't know if this is helpful to you or not, but I had found a couple of sites that boast products that crack Access security, find passwords and the like.

Are you sure this is an Access security issue and not a Network rights issue?

Anyhow, with the information you provided, its hard to tell exactly which approach to take. Perhaps a security hack tool could help you best.

I believe the permission data is kept in the system.mdw file. You could try renaming the file and copying in a system.mdw file that is not so restrictive.

First, you should make sure you have read/write permissions on the directory the mdb file is stored in. Also, on the file itself.

some ideas, for what they are worth..

can you move the file to another dir?
rename the file?
access it by code and set warning to false?

First thanks for all your help!
I found out what I was doing wrong. The error message I encountered was: “You don't have the necessary permissions to use D:/business/db1.mdb objects" contact your system administrator EST.… ”. This error is associate with work group permissions. Ok after three days this is what I found out. If you get this error do the following and it will fix it under the following conditions?
1.) You must have the Secured.wdw file in the same folder as your database file. This file is where the user ID's are held and where the unseen encrypted passwords are stored. You open the file but you won't find the passwords they are embedded.
2.) Open Access (Note: Not The Database - Just Access).
3.) Click On TOOLS then SECURITY then WORKGROUP ADMINISTRATOR. When the workgroup admin opens Click On JOIN then BROWSE your hard drive until you locate the Secured.mdw file located in the folder where you have your database and highlight it and Click On Open then Click On OK and your done. (Note: By default you will see the Secured.wdw file when you click browse however this is not the Secured.wdw file you need. The default one you see is stored in a MS TEMP file this is not the one you want!) You should be able to open your data base. It will now prompt you for your username and password.
