I'd like to setup a Win NT workstation with a dual boot system so on power up it would give me a choice of Win NT or Windows 98, Win NT being the default and maybe a timed choice. Also if possible a password on the windows 98 boot.
Is this possible?

Could any one give me advice on where to start, I've never done dual boots before.

Is there a simple avaiable program to do this?

Thank you for any help

This can be done on either 1 Partition or 2 (or 2 HDD). If it is on 1 Partition it will have to be Formatted as FAT16. (So NT will not be able to use NTFS - eg no file security Permissions).
If one Partition, Firstly install 98. then just insert the NT CD within 98, and it will autorun. Just install as usual (Selecting same partition as 98 to install to) and it will do everything else for you regarding the dual boot.

Once installed you can change the default O/S in System Properties in NT and change the wait time (or edit the boot.ini file on the root dir)

If you have two partitions it is the same process, and c: will still have to be FAT16, but you can format the second partition as NTFS

Steve,

you can do this however there are a few things you want to keep in mind.

1 you MUST load windows 98 FIRST, on a FAT or FAT32 partition. Then load windows NT/2000. If you want both operating systems to see each others partition then you need to load NT on a FAT partition as well (As 98 dosnt understand NTFS, this holds true with windows 2000 as well).

If you want the default to be NT then edit the BOOT.INI file and change it from the second to the first selection. (If you need help on this one let me know)

Good luck ....

Good info on NT/98 dual boot.

I need help on a dual boot setup with NT/98 using PPro 200 with dual processors. Does anyone have a workaround solution??????????????

W98 will not run on multiprocessor machines; NT is designed to do so. But I have not been able to setup a dual boot without multiple problems with W98. Pulling one of the processors before installation does not help as 98 will not run except in Safe mode. The tech docs on 98 state that "multiprocessors are not supported"; NT presents no problems.

Any ideas???

Thanks.
