i'm trying to figur out how to use the remote desktop feature on window xp pro.

after enableing remote access on my home network computers, i was able to use the remote desktop feature within my home net work.

my question is that when i try to access my home pc from my work, how well the computer know where i'm trying to connect to? all the pc ask for is the computer name and username and password.

so does remote desktop only work within your home network?

or do i need to do something else?

In the computer name field, you must put in your home public IP address. Depending on how your home network is connected to the internet, other steps are also required. If your home network is connected through a hardware router, you will have to set the router to forard UDP port 3389 to the internal IP address of the machine that you're trying to access.
