I am new to the web development world. Our company purchased visual studio.net and sent me to training. Have not developed anything yet. Now the company want's to create a web based application using the apache as the web server on a linux box with novell.
From what I have read it appears that the visual studoi.net tools is scrap. If I am wrong please let me know.

I would like to know what is the best way to go about creating this web application, which language should be used, what training, what are the pieces(software/hardware) that need to be identified, what editor is best for coding. I'm at a loss at this point.
Please help.
Thanks,

If you're running Apache on Linux, .Net isn't going to be of that much use. There is the Mono project which is an open-source .Net implementation, but I do not know how well along it is.

The most popular languages for web programming on Linux are probably PHP, perl, and python. My personal preference is PHP.
