I have down- loaded two files that are supposed to upgrade my BIOS to read a larger hard drive. I am not sure how to flash the BIOS using those files. When I ran one of the EXE file through a floppy during start up, it is asking for source file name and nothing happens! Can any one help me on how to Flash the BIOS. The BIOS type I am supposed to upgrade is "Award Modular BIOS V4.51PG". I only need to know the proceedure as how to flash it and make it work. Thank you.

Where did you download them from? Hopefully mobo manufacturer's site - but wherever, there's normally detailed instructions on what to do. You need the exact instructions for your bios (many are similar, but I don't want to post a 'generic' set of instructions which causes you to kill your bios!). Go back to the site.

If you downloaded from a multi-driver site & there are no instructions, go to the mobo's manufacturer's site and see if you can find instructions there.

Wolluf is 100% right. You need to follow the motherboard manufacturer's instructions exactly or else you could be in trouble. The source file will be the actual bios file that you downloaded- probably 'something.bin'

It is VERY important to know that flashing your BIOS is one of the most dangerous things an inexperienced computer user can do! It is not something to take lightly.

Remember that if you are flashing the bios you MUST USE THE RIGHT FILE otherwise you can destroy your motherbaord.

When the process of flashing is taking place, do not move the mouse or shut the computer down. Do not press any keys. Make a note of your CMOS settings, like hard drive sectors/cylinders.

And download a copy of your CURRENT bios version also, incase the new bios file causes errors, you can re-flash with the one you already have.
