We purchased two 16-port Silkworm 2800 Fibre Channel switches to replace the two existing 8-port brocade switches in our FC4700. Does anyone know where I can find documentation that outlines the steps to install new switches? I have heard that some type of migration or zoning is necessary.

The documentation should have shipped with the switches.

Basically to migrate the switches you will need to setup the switches with different Domain ID's. You can then connect one of the switches to an existing one via ISL and let the Fabric configuration migrate to the other switch.

How are your switches used/connected/designed?

Are they connected together?

Hi Terry,
you should be able to ISL the switches together. If the fabric merges the zoning information you currently have on the 8 port brocade switcheswill show up on the 2800. There are a few gotchas with merging zones and you need to be careful. If you have a powerlink logon for emc's website you can get all the documentation for installing and settingup a brocade.
all tjhe best,
Colin

Thanks for both of your responses. We did not get any documentation with the switches. They are not connected together. The only connections are from the network (to the Cisco switch) and the incoming fibre connections from the SAN hosts. Can you elaborate on the ISL connection that you both mention?

Inter-Switch Link" Plugging one switch up to the other. In order to do this without segmenting the Fabric, both switches will need to have seperate Domain ID's.
