Need help in word

Lately my word documents are not formating correctly.
I type in an email and instead of creating a hyperlink that is blue in color, it comes back {HYPERTEXT:emailto(...)}
When I insert page numbers it comes back as {PAGE}.
I right click on it and toggle back, but when I save it comes back as the {HYPERTEXT FORMAT}

What button have I pressed to cause this change in formatting?

Go to Tools, Options, click the View tab, untick Field Codes

Alternatively, use the Alt-F9 keyboard shortcut to toggle field code display on/off.
