I have an hmc connected with p570 and p510 both are in full system partition mode (single partition) I used the hmc to start and stop the pseries machines, The hmc is not connected / configured to LAN. Can I use the hmc for firmware upgrade of my p570 and p510 and how.

Thanks in Advance

Yes, the hmc can be used to upgrade the firmware on both managed systems.

How you perform the upgrade depends on what level of firmware you want. IBM documents how to perform the upgrade as well as prerequisite information such as what level the HMC must be before upgrading a managed system.

Also, if the hosts are production, you should determine if the upgrade will require an outage (power cycle) of the managed system. Typically, if you move from one firmware release to another, a power cycle of the managed system is usually required (ex. SF230 -> SF235).

The lsmcode command can be executed on the managed system to determine what firmware level is currently installed.
