Hi

I'm new to SQL Server 2005 and I have the tables created already by another person earlier..but the tables are not populated, I need to fill in the data tables in the data base with an already existing database which holds the raw data.

Backlog
Actual Raw Database -------------------> Summary database

The above was a pictorical view of what my data looks like...Now I need to extract the information from the raw database to the summary database.

You would use SSIS Import wizard. Where is the data? Is it on another server or another database or a flat file? Do you need to transform the data in any way? You haven't really provided us with enough information.

Thanks for the reply..and I'm really sorry abt that...

Now...first I'm using crystal reports and trying to connect to the database...finally i was able to do it and when i created a report i was surprised to see there was no data on it...then i queried the SQL Server dB to find that there was no data...There were just the tables...i mean the tables were created...but when I asked my tech lead abt it he said...v already have the data and the current proj shud hit the already existing data or the backlog file to fill the data to the current database... can some one help me with this...or do i need to be more clear...

What is the "backlog file" is it a flat file on the server somewhere.

I guess so...So what do I do now...how do i extract the data into my SQL Server from the 'BACKLOG' file...

I guess so...So what do I do now..

First: Find out for sure if it IS a flat file on the server!

Second: Find out where the file is.

Thrid: Create an SSIS package to import the data into the table!
