Need help creating a heart monitor animation

I am trying to simulate a heart monitor animation in Flash MX 2004. But I can't seem to get it right. I'm new to Flash and trying to learn while I create my first website. Can anyone help give ne suggests on how to create it. What I'm looking to do is create a heart monitor animation, which you see in alot of medical show that has a small circle going up and down showing the heart beats. I created a small circle and have it follow a line path that goes up and down as a herat monitor shows but what I want the line to do is appear when the circle starts to go over the line path and half way to the end have the line start to fade. Can anyone help.
