Hello, just recently got a poweredge 6450 rackmount server in an auction, and am having some trouble with it. The beasts fans are loud. Too loud. The machine can be heard almost throughout the building. I have tried setting the fans to "noise reduced mode" in the bios, but then they just jump back and fourth between a high and low speed the whole time making almost as much noise. I have tried speedfan, but after installing, it crashes when trying to detect the hardware. Does anyuone know of another software way to quiet the fans, or of a way to get speedfan to work? Thanks

What are the temps in the room? temps of the server? Most fans are temp controlled...although some of the smaller 1U units, the fans run all out all the time, or if there is one missing or not turning, it will cause all of the other fans to go all out, also, on most servers that have redundant power supplies, if one is not powered the fans will spin at high speed.
