I've downloaded the new Mandrake 10 ISO's and have burnt them to CD. When I open the CD-ROM in explorer on XP, it starts an AutoRun program where I can select to begin Mandrake installation at next boot.

I reboot and nothing happens. Is there a way to make this CD bootable so I can install from it?

I already have Mandrake 9.1 installed and it was done from bootable CD's and it worked fine.

Is something different with Mandrake 10? Thanks.

If you selected to have the disc bootable it puts in that autorun file. This isn't the same as the boot image that gets loaded on the cd when it gets burned. When you browse the cd, you should see a directory structure similar to what you have on your 9.1 system. If you see an iso file you may have used a copy and paste rather than selecting the burn from iso image option. Some software sees an iso file as just a big file rather than a disc image so you need to point it in the right direction.

I just noticed that you mentioned cd-rw. If this is the case, many cd-rw discs can only be read by the drive that wrote them.

I had a similar problem with Mandrake 10.0. My system wouldn't boot from CD1. I put in CD2 and it would boot from that. Then I changed back to CD1 and continued the installation. I assume that there is something wrong with the CD1 iso.

I used to have problems with my very old laptop (5+ years) not wanting to boot from cd-rw media. I have to use cd-r media with disc-at-once option enabled. Maybe same type of situation for you?

I am burning and booting on the same machine.

I see a directory/tree type structure on the CD, not an ISO.

I will try to boot from 2nd CD and let ya'll know.

Thanks for the tips.
