need help/advice on a keyUp event

I am going to be going over a static pdf and making it interactive. The crappy thing is that the pdf has character boxes, and a bunch of them.
I am wondering if anyone has ever created single character boxes and then scripted something that on a keyUp (except for tab) would go to the next character box, and this would happen until either the user pressed tab or they are at the end of the field.

If anyone has tried something like this or may have an example please let me know.

Just to answer my own question, I stumbled on this not too long ago, it tabs to the next field in the tab order when the char limit has been reached. Here is the sample pdf/code
