I wish I knew what happenned....

1) There are 3 Oracle Dbs on the server. Yesterday, I was trying to create a new database using DBASSIST. I could not do it because evidently my username for the system did not have permission to create files and directories. I exited DBASSIST without doing anything more. I did not touch any of the databases or delete/modify any files.

2) That afternoon,no one was able to access the Dbs. We get the following when we try to log on,connect,find the problem....

Enter user-name: elizabet
Enter password:
ERROR:
ORA-01034: ORACLE not available

SVRMGR> exit

I looked around tried to find a tsnames.ora file. Evidently, this was set up using SQL*net and uses the names.ora file. I accessed this file and it only listed the name of one of the DBs as follows....

(CONNECT_DATA =
(SID = <Db1 name>)
(SRVR = DEDICATED)
)

I tried connecting to this Db and could not connect to it either.

I tried adding a second parameter to the names.ora file as follows...

(CONNECT_DATA =
(SID = <DB1 name>)
(SRVR = DEDICATED)
)
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SID = <Db2 name>)
(SRVR = DEDICATED)
)

There was no change.

What is wrong? How can I fix it so we can get into the Dbs?
