Where can I get a Groupwise 6.5 client?
I can't find it on the server, and am not having much luck on the Novell site.

Thanks, but tried that site and wasn't able to find a client (that could be installed from CD). Obviously, I'm missing something basic!

I did get the three file set, but ehen uncompressed, they don't yield an executable install file.

I shold mention that this is a new client, and I'm still trying to figure out how the previous person configured things.
I gather they updated from a CD, which is long gone.

The best way to get the client would be to download one of the service packs. The most recent 6.5 service pack is SP3. I'd find out which service pack is running on the server (if you can) and download the same SP to get the client. The service packs for 6.5 are here:

Hope that helps,

P.S. If possible, it would be a good idea to download the same language (multi-language or English-only) that is running on the server.

Thanks for the input. I can't think of a good excuse for not finding this link myselg (brain-fuzz?)

I have downloades SP3 (twice), but it doesn't extract. I'm downloading SP2 now.

I admit that I haven't tried it myself, but I was thinking that the 3-user evaluation would have the client. Sorry I can't help with the extraction.

Run the extraction from either A) a dos command prompt or B) in Windows Explorer, only if the path to the EXE is in 8.3 format (no long filenames or directories)

Create a directory on the root of your hard drive and drop the file there (something like C:\GW65SP3m). Open a command prompt and execute the file from there. I have had better luck doing this than actually double-clicking the file. Whenever I just double-click the file, it usually seems to get stuck on "Verifying ARJ-SECURITY envelope...".

Be aware that the entire process will likely take several minutes. Start it when you go out for lunch or something. Also know that, depending on which SP version you download, the extracted files could take up to a GB of disk space.

Good luck,
Ron

Thanks Marv & Mevlana, I finally got it.

The directory filename was my problem. It was GroupWise, as soon as I moved the files to an 8.3 directory at the root, everything worked as designed (from a DOS box - Windows Explored had some hiccups).

Thanks again for reminding me of things that I knew, but had forgotten. Keeping up with technology is great, as long as you keep in touch with the basics.

My sincere thanks!

You're welcome.

But I have one more thing: My name is Ron, not Mevlana. Mevlana Rumi is the name of the person who I am quoting in my signature. [wink]
