I have one Windows 2000 Advanced server that has one important directory that is very important that it gets backed up every night.. and then several other not so important folders.. Data is crucial.. Was wondering what would be best practice to make sure I have this one folder backed up in its entirety.. I do not have the open file option that you can purchase so if someone is in my program during time of backup whats the chances I'm getting good backup... THANKS IN ADVANCE =)

what's in the folder? databases, word docs, excel?

BE should be fine on its own.

You might want to consider doing a full backup 1x per week and then a daily differential back.

The differential back up will back up all files that have changed since the last full backup. That way if you ever have to restore, you restore the last full back up and then the most recent differential backup.

If a file is open you might not get that particular file. The only file that cause a problem for me are *.pst (outlook e-mail files) all other file do fine. You backup log will list any files that BE had problems with.

Last thing... I run my backup at a time when there is nothing else going on and the building is empty.
