Hi All,
I want to buy a Superserver system (from Supermicro) to run FreeBSD 4.7 or higher and cannot make up my mind as to what to buy.
Supermicro's tech support seems to be more confident
about Linux compatibility with their older Pentium III based Superserver systems, seems like they did not test FreeBSD at all and just rely on their customers' feedback.
I need this server to be very stable, however I am somewhat
reluctant to buy a Pentium III based system after Pentium 4 has been out there for about 2 years now.
Please share your experience (if you have any) of running Linux on SuperMicro's Superservers. I'd appreciate, if you
could provide a detailed spec of your hardware system and list issues and problems you have run into if any.
Please specify what version of Linux you are using.
One more question: I've heard from some people that allegedly Pentium III based servers work... faster than those based on Pentium IV. CAN THIS BE TRUE ?
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP IN ADVANCE !
