I am a newbie to the Merlin system and I recently reprogrammed a Legend R7 system from key to hybrid pbx mode. Now the single line analog phones require a nine to access the system to even dial an extention and a second nine to access an outside line. The digital phones all work fine. when I pickup the analog phone I hear a dial tone. When I then dial a 9 I get another, but slightly different dial tone. I can then dial an extention or dial another 9 and get an outside line. Any ideas? I would much appreciate any help, in that this is for our local Boy Scout Camp.

Change the ARS tables to add a 9 to dial out, or e-mail me and I'll do it for you, since you're one of the good guys !

Thanks for the idea, but I already tried this. I don't think I'm stating the problem clearly. The single line analog phones must dial a nine to even get on the system. I believe that they are required to do this because the PBX system must first be accessed before they can even dial an extention. A second nine is required, if they want an outside line. I think it has something to do with Idle access code. There is mention of this in the manual, but it is too cryptic for me to interpret entirely.

This may help using Centralized Programming, Try this:

Menu > Sys Prog > Exit > More > Centrl Prg > Program Ext > ENTER EXT NUMBER > Touch ANY BUTTON > DIAL *14 > Press 1st 1 Intercom button and then the other and then press ENTER.

Hit Home to get out and see if that makes it better for the sets.

I tried this too! to no avail. Thanks for the advice. I just can't figure this one out.

This sounds like you may have some type of authorization code setting for these sets.

Do a PRINT of one or 2 of these and see if that tells you anything.

So when you go off hook on the single line phones, what do you hear at first? An inside dial tone? Dead Air? Anything?

Single line telephones need to be programmed for auto line select. The default is like what you are describing. If you want internal dial tone first, you have to program for first line select SA intercom. The easiest way to see it is with winspm and use the access tools, not standard spm. I had this same issue about 4 years ago when programming an outgoing call center that had all single line extensions. I don't remember the key sequence from the console. I think I had to use the winspm. Good luck!
