Hello,

1.)where are the differents between the two "types or mode" of vlans ??? i know this from Business Policy Switch but by the BAY 5510 i cant find it.

2.) How work the two "types" of Vlans ????

thanks..........

IVL: Independent VLAN Learning
SVL: Shared VLAN Learning

In an SVL all of the VLANs have the same layer 2 forwarding database, and in IVL all of the VLANs have separate layer 2 forwarding databases. You'd want to use IVL in cases where you were going to have the same MAC address in two VLANs, I'm not sure why would want to use SVL instead of IVL.

I don't think all of the models support both. I think older models like the 350/450 only support SVL, the BPS/460/470 family supports both, and newer models like the 425/5500 only support IVL.

Hi anthonyanderberg,

thx for information. I need the follow point:

In an SVL all of the VLANs have the same layer 2 forwarding database.

I need this features for a Layer 2 Configuraion:

BayStack5510:

Ports 1-2: (Layer2GatewayVlan)
PVID = VLAN 1
VLAN member set = {VLAN 1, VLAN 2, VLAN 3}
No tagging

Port 9: (rommX-Vlan)
PVID = VLAN 2
VLAN member set = {VLAN 1, VLAN 2,}
No tagging

Ports 10: (saw-VLAN)
PVID = VLAN 3
VLAN member set = {VLAN 1, VLAN3}
No tagging

The communication works fine but if i generate a lot of traffic 30 % of(1000Mbit) the BayStack breaks down. Reason: (flooding) of all ports.

the same configuration works fine on BPS 2000 with SVL feature. I need a Nortel Device with PortSpeed max 1000 Mbit and a kind of SVL feature to realize my plans.

Anyone a idea ????
THX
