I've been trying to write an ammortization table in Excel and got it working except for one thing: the principal doesn't account for extra payments correctly.

I found an app named Mortgage Minder 3.0 and it works fine, but it is severe nagware and I'd like to learn how to do it myself.

My Excel workbook (mortgage.xls) can be found here:
The problem specifically is that the principal payments do not change after an extra payment. According to MM, my cell E13 should be 65.05 after the extra payment of 100 in row 12.

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

teddymines,

Is it me, or could it be that your link is "not quite right" ???

It doesn't appear obvious as to where to locate your mortgage.xls file. All I could find that was "close" was an "Amortization Calculator" - and NOTHING in the form of an Excel file.

Can you please double-check the link ? :)

Hmmm, I was able to click on the link and get directly to the folder, which is definitely public. Here is a link directly to the Excel file in that folder:

And here is a top-level link, click on Public:

I guess if this fails, I could email it to you. I don't have a web site, otherwise I'd post it there.
