hey guys

i just finished a module for our website. I would very much like some suggestions, go to then click the "Cards with Class" button on the right side. (i wasn't the one who named the button, my boss did). you may practically view all pages of the site but please be considerate for it is not 100% finished yet, only a number of parts of it are for public viewing, like the graduation cards, statistics, flights, recipes, q & a, etc. (some pages will give u a deadlink).

thanks and Godepeed!

biggie

p.s. works only in ie not netscape as that version is not online yet (could anyone give a single solution as to the browser compatability?)

like the look of that site man..simple but nice..dave or old, will you guys explain to me or point me to a tutorial on making scroll windows like in the middle of this site..
thanks in advance..

i would to ask also how ong it takes the entire console ot load and the current speed u r on, coz in philippine isp's it takes about 2-5 minutes loading (too long i think) on the first time, but lessens on succedding loadings, and what do u think of the cards (pls send some so that you may also see how it looks like on the recieving side)

thanks

Big,
Took about 30 secs. on a 56K connection only connected at 31,200bps tonight! Which is pretty good!
See ya got your tab key workin'!
You're doing great!

;-)

Watchin' the news... Back in 1/2 hour!

old

im quite impressed! i thought u wouldn't remember me in among all the ppl in this forum. By the way your help with the tab problem was great! you've seen the result. Thanks a lot for your help!

do u think the delay in page loading could annoy anyone, i am hoping it doesn't exceed the patience threshold of users! (well, it kinda takes very long during the first loading).

thanks again! and please do send some cards if u know anyone graduating, if its not too much to ask....;-)

thanks,

biggie

Hey Big,
I checked your site (on fast connection, dsl) took longer than it should have for the "welcome" animation but probably a problem with the serveur tonight. However, a bigger problem is the fact that on a Mac, outside your frameset (I assume it's a frameset, I could not read your code) there is a column of white, on the right side of your frame with scrolling bar, with the following text "HTTP1.1 404 OBJECT NOT FOUND" (be it in IE or Nets) ....
(and Old, I know what you think of Macs, but you should put aside your sectarisme and realize that most designers do work on Macs as do a lot of Artists, illustrators etc. So, please, dont throw us, Mac Users out the window... we are here to stay. I assure you.)
Sorry not to be of bigger help Big...
Nite nite
P.

well, pbb actually u gave me some insight there. our team has been developing for the PC platform, unfortunately, none of us has ever thought of developing a version for mac, the reason for it (according to my boss) is that there are not so many mac users in the Philippines. But since our scope now includes ppl and filipinos abroad, then i guess i could bring up that issue during our next consultative meeting given the fact that (according to you) there are a lot of mac users everywhere else in the world (and, as you said, they are here to stay). Thanks and i'll let you know if my boss decides to make a mac version (in that case he'll have to buy me a mac wouldn't he?)

hey where's tipmaster dave? i've had feedback from tipmaster old, now how about every other tipmasters?

Just had a quick visit Big. Lookin good, but I do remember commenting on this before, has that disappeared? Anyway, It'coming on great, I didn't have time to check anything due to time but I have a vague memroy of nothing working at all the last time I visited, so well done. Clean-crisp interface with plenty going on.

VIRT: big has used a frameset and is using getURL actions to load html(some with embedded flash) into the middle frame. That's why you get the scroll. Correct me if my guess about your work is wrong Big.

virt, dave is right in his assumption (as is usual for a tipmaster) actually, the console itself is a lot momre complicated than it seems, it is composed of more or less 8 frames each with a different frame names so as to tell flash what page should come up next and where.

I have a question (sort of, i dont know if it is possible) ....dav, is it possible to make a sort of a hole in flash. like for example, i have a flash version of the entire console (that is 1 flash file and no framesets), and it loaded a lot faster than the online version. We have to make the center portion of it read html and asp files. i tried to find it somewhere, but no mention of it i found, so i just assumed it cannot be done.

well, thanks for your comments guys, i remember pretty well that when i started, i barely know anything about flash (my employer just gave me 2 weeks to learn flash with no books, only the help section of Flash), even now i think i still have a lot more to explore and learn. I will still be hooked up to this forum even when im fired (hope not). Thanks ppl, hey dav and old, i will be looking out for more your tek - tips. and guys good to hear from you,

thanks and Godspeed!:-V

You can have flash read html to an extent, have a look in the help section to see the tags supported. The only problem is that Flash doesn't support many tags. I think you mena can you have an html show in the middle? Someone was asking about having a flash movie ontop of an html page using layers, Haven't checked it out but it might be worth a bit of research, that way you could pulish your flash as transparent and leave a gap in the middl e for the html below to show.

thanks dave,
already tried that and it doesn't work. the layer bit will rearrange on diffrent screen resolutions. so it still doesnt work. how about this: i manage to take out the toolbar, address bar ,etc of the browser, could u tell me how to take out the blue part of the browser (u know the bar where the three buttons ( minimize, maximize, close window )are. i figure if i could take that out then i'll just position it right in the middle of flash.

thanks dave

would be worth a post in the javascript forum. I don't know much javascript. davdesign@pinkzeppelin.com

Hi Big!

I think one of the threads Dave was referring to is: thread250-63155 - the 2 last posts in particular... But it uses <div> or layers!
This should possibly be a way out though, if you base the whole thing on the user's available window size, thus the resolution he's using.

As for getting rid of that border, opening a fullscreen window will do it, but to my knowledge, this only works with IE. NS insists on keeping a close box no matter what.

;-)

Hello Big,
sorry I have not answered earlier, but I've been and still am; pretty swamped by work.
I hope your boss will change his mind and decide to have a &quot;mac version&quot; of that site. However, you do not need to work on a Mac to be able to make a Mac version, nor do you necessarly need to make a separate version for mac. All the sites that we do at my company are done with Macs, but they all are PC &quot;compatible&quot; --thank God!-- and actually we have to make all our sites not only compabitble with Mac/PC, but also on IE/Nets and even...aol. But most of the time we do not need to make separate versions. Where I work we make ---most of the times--- one version and tune it until it looks fine on both platforms and both browsers. So of course, the best way is to have both platforms where you work, but if you don't, you can also check how your site looks on other platform via networking --if your partners have a different platforms-- or asking in a forum such as this one to have someone send you a screen grab of what they see, etc.
Good luck with your project,

Patricia

old, i saw that post few days ago, didn't think its worth it to put a layer where the flash object should be, what we did was just include a text enclosed in font tags and placed it after the param tags before the </object> tag like this:

<object blah blah blah >
<param name=blah value=blah>
<param name=blah value=blah>
<param name=blah value=blah>
<font> message </font>

that worked for us. of course we included a link to macromedia download center to the message.
as for layers, my supervisors say its a no-no, meaning he doesn't want to mess with it especially since we used that b4 and he didn't like the layout when we switched resolutions (we have 2 console version, one for 800x600 and another for 1024x768, both of them are supposed to fill up the whole screen).

and you r right old, only a full screen could take out the blue bar, so i guess i'll just have to stick with lay out for now, anyways it seems effective enough.

patricia,
today is our consultative meeting and i'll bring up the mac issue, and one question, where can i get a copy of an aol browser (if that's what they r called), aol is not existent in the philippines (but they r known), i mean most ppl here dont use it.

Hello Big,

Sorry to ask but where is &quot;here&quot; in your &quot;&quot;aol is not existent in the philippines (but they r known), i mean most ppl here dont use it&quot;&quot; I mean what country are you in?
As for aol, if it is not used by the audience that you are targetting, then you need not worry about it. But if you can not find it wherever you are and really want it, I can get a aol cd here and mail it to you.

Patricia

patricia,
here, or my country is a little nation situated right beside the pacific ocean (sort of). If u have a map, look for vietnam, right under it is the Republic of the Philippines, thats where im in. We dont have AOL here, only independent ISP's connecting us to the NET. However, AOL has become a concern for me (well, not right now probably after our launching date) coz, my boss'es wife is an american and she says she views our site using AOL, actually i dont quite comprehend AOL's services coz i think they sort of encompass the entire internet services (from physical connection to softwares to be used with the services, am i right?) that's why i have a very vague idea of what it is.

If u could send the cd that might clear up a lot things. Thanks. my postmail address is (am i allowed to state it here? i once recieved a notification for posting my email address):
